The National Exit Test (NExT) is set to be a landmark examination for medical graduates in India. It serves a dual purpose: as a licentiate exam (granting the right to practise) and as a qualifier for postgraduate admissions.

Who Needs to Take NExT?

  • All MBBS graduates from Indian colleges
  • All Indian students who completed medical degrees abroad
  • Foreign medical graduates seeking to practise in India
  • Exam Structure

NExT is expected to consist of two steps:

**Step 1:** Theory-based exam covering all major clinical subjects studied during MBBS — Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and allied subjects.

**Step 2:** Practical/clinical skills assessment conducted at designated centres.

    Preparation Strategy for Overseas Students

    1. **Start early** — begin revision from your 3rd year of medical school

    2. **Follow the NMC syllabus** — align your study material with the topics NMC has outlined

    3. **Use question banks** — practise with MCQs regularly

    4. **Join a coaching programme** — structured preparation helps (our NExT Success Pack includes this)

    5. **Simulate exam conditions** — take timed mock tests every month

    Our Take

NExT is not something to fear — it's something to prepare for. Students who start early and stay consistent will find it manageable alongside their overseas curriculum.
